Why Most Offshore Hires Quit Within a Year (And What We Do Differently)

Most offshore staffing companies won’t tell you their retention numbers. We will: our team members stay with clients an average of three years.

That number matters more than people realize. Every time an offshore hire quits, you’re back to square one,  sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, ramping someone up on your systems and your clients. Six months of productivity, gone.

The real reason offshore hires leave

It’s rarely about the Philippines or Colombia as a market. It’s almost always one of three things:

1. Poor fit at the hiring stage. The person was hired for a resume, not for the actual role and team dynamic.

2. No local support. The employee is left to figure out compliance, pay, and workplace issues alone, with no one advocating for them.

3. Being treated as a cost line, not a team member. Dedicated, full-time staff who feel like an extension of the team stay. Contractors treated as disposable don’t.

What actually drives retention

At Filta, retention starts before someone is hired, not after they quit.

  • Hiring for fit, not just skills. We screen for how someone works with a specific team, not just whether they can do the task list.
  • Compliance handled properly, every time. DOLE requirements, SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG contributions in the Philippines. When this is handled correctly and consistently, employees trust the arrangement and trust drives tenure.
  • Full-time and dedicated, not shared or rotating.A team member working solely for one client, embedded in that client’s processes, has a reason to stay invested.

The takeaway

If your last offshore hire didn’t last, it likely wasn’t a location problem. It was a process problem in hiring, in support, or in how the role was structured. Retention isn’t luck. It’s built.
