Offshore Staffing Isn’t “Outsourcing on the Cheap” – Here’s the Difference

I still get asked this, years into building Filta: “Isn’t offshore staffing just outsourcing on the cheap?”

It still annoys me. And it’s still the wrong question.

Cheap and offshore aren’t the same thing

Somewhere along the way, “offshore” became shorthand for “cut-rate.” That reputation was earned by staffing models built around volume and turnover, cycle people through fast, pay as little as possible, treat the relationship as transactional.

That model is a race to the bottom. It produces exactly the outcomes people expect from it: high turnover, inconsistent quality, and clients who eventually give up and bring the role back in-house.

What we built instead

Filta places dedicated, full-time team members in the Philippines and Colombia for clients across Australia, the US, UK, New Zealand, and Canada. The difference isn’t the geography.

It’s the model:

  • Dedicated, not shared.Team members work solely for one client, not split across a rotation of accounts.
  • Retention as the actual metric. Our team members stay with clients an average of three years, because turnover is the real cost of “cheap,” even when it doesn’t show up on an invoice.
  • Employer of Record done properly. Full compliance with local labor law, not a workaround that shifts risk onto the client or the worker.

Why this matters more than people think

The Philippines and Colombia aren’t budget hacks. They’re markets with genuinely skilled professionals, people who are excellent at their jobs and deserve to be treated as real team members, not line items.

Clients who understand that get years of consistent, high-quality work. Clients chasing the lowest possible price get what that price buys: turnover, retraining, and starting over.

The real question to ask

Not “how cheap can offshore staffing be.” Instead: “who is actually accountable for retention, compliance, and quality once the contract is signed?”

That’s the question that separates a staffing partner from a race to the bottom.
